National Day celebrations took centre stage in Sengkang Town this past August. In commemoration of our nation’s 58th birthday, Sengkang Town Council (SKTC) had collaborated with My Community to bring the NDP festivities to the heartlands in Sengkang.

In support of My Community Festival - a ground-up initiative showcasing Singapore’s community stories through immersive tours and other cultural and heritage experiences, members of the public were treated to an eye-catching display of decorative installations and handcrafted lanterns that adorned the void deck and lift lobby at Blk 321B Anchorvale Drive from 04 - 20 August 2023.

In line with the theme ‘Decorate My Sengkang’, the festival brought together Sengkang resident Jessie Toh and her neighbours in an effort to amplify the NDP celebrations in our town. Sharing a common passion for beautifying the neighbourhood through art, the group of like-minded residents joined hands in the crafting of National Day-inspired lanterns, specially designed to inculcate a sense of national identity and belonging.

Complementing the craftsmanship that went into the display, our residents also brought the lanterns to life by adding the finishing touches through their creative illustrations. In preparation for the month-long festival, work on the setting-up of the displays began in mid-July.

The community initiative represents SKTC’s ongoing commitment to foster strong bonds and promote good neighbourliness between our residents in Sengkang through our continued partnerships with public agencies across Singapore.
