Just over a year ago, we talked about introducing heat-reflecting paint in our Sengkang Masterplan to help make our estates a little cooler and more comfortable to live in. Today, we are happy to share that this work has officially started.
We have commenced the rollout of "cool paint" at Anchorvale Gardens, and we will be progressively extending this to 15 other precincts across Sengkang over the course of the year as part of our scheduled Repairs and Redecorations (R&R) works.
Much like how algaecides are added to prevent algae growth, these specialized paints use unique pigments to reflect solar radiation. By bouncing the sun’s energy away during the day, the walls absorb much less heat, which keeps the buildings from releasing trapped heat back into the estate at night.
The application of cool paint has yielded rather promising results, showing a reduction of temperatures by up to 2°C. This, in turn, translate to savings in electricity costs, as less energy is used to cool our homes.
When your block is slated for its R&R refresh, we would love for you to get involved. Do keep an eye out for our community polls so you can vote for the color scheme you want to see.
Together, we can work toward a more vibrant and (literally) cooler Sengkang.
