ESTATE IMPROVEMENT: COMBATING ILLEGAL DUMPING WITH THE LAUNCH OF FLOOR DECALS
Step out of your homes and you may have noticed that a floor decal is now placed prominently by the central refuse hopper along your corridor. In September 2021, we launched our latest initiative across 167 blocks in Sengkang GRC, as part of SKTC’s drive to raise awareness about the issue of illegal dumping in a HUGE way! Covid restrictions have caused islandwide manpower issues to upkeep our estates, and we hope that through these floor decals, we would encourage our residents to do their part to dispose of bulky items responsibly. Regular estate inspections carried out by our MPs and staff have shown that there is currently a high volume of bulky and large discarded items being discarded at the area around the central refuse hopper. This is in spite of notices and advisories being placed in these areas cautioning against such behaviour, and resulted in an unfortunate degradation in our living environment.
We have therefore come up with an innovative way in our campaign to create better care for our shared spaces and improve civic mindedness by sending messages using floor decals, and are pleased to note that we are the first Town Council to launch this method. You may also have noticed that we have a second decal placed under dustbins at our lift lobbies to reinforce the message that bulky items should be disposed of in the bins provided at our bulky refuse centres.
